Brady Goss Music

Brady Goss Piano, Keyboard, Vocals, Entertainer, MusicianAbout the new CD Brady Goss Raw and One Take at Sun Studios...

What a great time I had this October recording again! Memphis, Tennessee baby! Sun Studio where Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis, Johnny Cash and many more music legends all found themselves with the help of Sam Phillips. Well...I can now say that I have laid my share of cuts in that very place.  The historic landmark is still in beautiful condition.  It is very true to its roots and inspiring to musicians.  With giant pictures of my idol Jerry Lee Lewis and other rock and blues pioneers hanging on the wall, it made me feel like I was right at home...not to mention the piano I recorded on is the same piano that was used in all the early Sun recordings including Jerry Lee Lewis's piano driven “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' on”, and “Great Balls of Fire”.
“Raw and One Take” is a very experimental collection of songs.  There is no band.  I wanted to replicate the live show as much as possible. Almost everything was done in one take from start to finish.  However, since I am being completely honest, the end of my cover of Sinatra's “My Way” was pieced together a little bit at the end.....So my voice dried up and I ran out of air.  Sue me! That's what overdub is for! Hahaha.  But other than that the rest of the tracks were live. Vocals and piano at the same time.  There are things I do vocally that I have never done before. I am trying to broaden out with different variations of piano accompaniment and the highs and lows of my voice.  Just trying to figure me out.  I am overall very pleased with the recordings.  The quality is good, and it is very honest.  It is what it is.
Brady Goss Piano, Keyboard, Vocals, Entertainer, MusicianI also recorded at Phillips Recording Service.  Most people do not know, but before  Sam Phillips died, he moved to a new recording studio just a couple of blocks from Sun.  My dad and I caught wind of the studio, and wandered down to check it out.  A quick witted Roland Janes was manning the front desk.  We instantly knew who he was after introducing himself.  I have seen the name everywhere on the old sun recordings.  He was the lead guitar player for Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Lee Riley, Charley Rich, and Roy Orbison just to name a few.  We asked “So what do you do here Mr. Janes?” Wisely he said “Draw a paycheck.”  Come to find out, he is also the engineer at Phillips Recording Service.  We weren't sure how to take Roland at first, but as he showed us around dad and I warmed up to him.  I told him a little more about why we were here, and that I recorded at Sun.  He then turned to the Baldwin Grand Piano and said “Its a little out of tune right now, but you can play it.” After jokingly telling me I missed a note in the left hand, he acted genuinely impressed.  To make a long BS session short, he offered to record me (for a price of course).  I wasn't going to turn that down.  I laid down ten tracks, some of which will appear on the new CD.  After listening back to some of the recordings in the studio, one of many of Roland's comments that stuck with me included the statement, “out of all the people who have a similar style to Jerry Lee's, you and Jerry Lee are the only ones that showcase both hands equally.”  That is one hell of a compliment!  I never want to even mention my name in the same sentence as Jerry's.  However, that is one man's opinion.  True or false, it has driven me to greater heights, and I am for damn sure going to make music and entertainment my LIFE.  I don't like talking about myself, but I feel its what I have to do to own up to my own challenges sometimes.  So challenge me people, and make me entertain you.
Finally, I have some people to thank.  First of all, thank you mom and grandma and my newest additional family.  Not only do you support me in what I am doing, but you give me a double life, and that means the world to me.  I love all of you.  Thank you Dad for everything.  You take time out of your busy “owning a grocery store schedule” to help run my hectic business as well.  Same Goes to Jeff “Bossman” Parker and Angie.  You have taken the time from your lives to help me.  I am not always sure why, but I am grateful beyond words.  Thank you Matt “whatever your last name is” (inside joke) and Roland Janes, my producers for the album.
I would also like to thank the following artists for their inspiration that has driven me (in alpha order):

Frank Sinatra
George Jones
Jerry Lee Lewis
Joe Walsh
John Mayer
Martin Sexton
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Taryn Cross

To close I am going to be blunt.  This CD is GREAT!  It is possibly a once in a lifetime experience to record at Sun studios, and that old Jerry Lee ridden Wurlitzer piano with a cigar burn sounded vintage, and awesome.  Even though mostly cover songs, the music is what was in my heart, and I hope you love it as much as I do.  However let me say, unapologetically, it is not the best studio work I can do.  Hence the title “Brady Goss Raw and One Take.”  Hope you enjoy, and stay informed about up coming releases with original material.

Thanks so much
~Brady~
